Health care reform is the ultimate wedge issue. Our crazy health care crisis is destroying political alliances as people desperately search for a solution. In the news just today, we have small businesses vs. big, the Wall St. Journal vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and social conservatives vs. corporate ones.
Here’s why that’s good news: only a single-payer health care system, like every other Western democracy enjoys, will solve the health-care crisis—and calm all this political turmoil.
In other single-payer news, Arnold might want to really be inspired by Austria, a bi-partisan coalition in Washington might help pave the way for state single-payer plans, the Connecticut AFL and the American Medical Student Association join the fight, while the wishy-washy plans in Maryland and Pennsylvania are hurting.
Brought to you by the National Nurses Organizing Committee as we organize to make 2007 the Year of Single-Payer Healthcare.
